M Performance sill insert

Description

The M Performance side skirts emphasize the sporty look of the vehicle. Compared to the standard version, they offer a unique and clear differentiation option thanks to the design in high-quality visible carbon fiber. The inserts were specially developed for the specified vehicle series and are a 100% perfect fit. The shape and design of the side skirts are perfectly matched to the vehicle geometry and look and coordinated with all other M Performance Parts. After various tests, the M Performance side skirts were approved in accordance with the strict BMW Group quality guidelines. All legal requirements are met. Separate TÜV registration and an ABE (general operating permit) are not necessary, as the inserts have already been homologated with the entire vehicle or listed in the EC operating permit. The sill inserts can only be installed in conjunction with the M aerodynamic package (SA715). In addition, the "holder light module (MSP)" left and right must be ordered separately, as these are not included in the scope of delivery. Material information: The sill inserts are made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP, carbon) and are sealed with clear lacquer. The material is UV, temperature and water resistant. The carbon surrounds are manufactured by hand. The cutting and draping of the fabric layers, the curing process of the plastic matrix and the milling of the raw parts takes several hours. The subsequent painting process poses a particular challenge. In order to enhance the unmistakable depth effect of the carbon fabric, the components are painted several times. Each individual coat of paint must be dried and then sanded. After the last coat of paint has been applied, the carbon part is polished to a high gloss (except for the open-pored carbon versions). The carbon components are qualified in accordance with the applicable BMW standard. This is the only way to ensure that the high requirements, e.g. with regard to ageing and temperature resistance, are met without cracking or paint peeling off the substrate and that yellowing of the matrix is avoided. This high degree of manual work and qualification effort is responsible for the price.
