The high-gloss carbon fiber creates a distinctive appearance. The trim is the perfect complement to the M Performance steering wheel with Alcantara grip area. Cutting and draping the fabric layers, curing the plastic matrix, and milling the raw parts takes several hours. The subsequent painting process presents a particular challenge. To enhance the distinctive depth effect of the carbon fiber weave, the components are painted multiple times. Each individual coat of paint must be allowed to dry and then sanded. After the final coat of paint is applied, the carbon fiber part is polished to a high gloss (with the exception of open-pore carbon fiber versions). The carbon fiber components are certified according to applicable BMW standards. This is the only way to ensure that the high requirements—for example, regarding resistance to aging and temperature without cracking or paint peeling from the substrate—are met, and that yellowing of the matrix is prevented. This high degree of handwork and the effort involved in the certification process account for the price. Available only in combination with the SA 0710 M leather steering wheel. Alcantara upholstery matched to the M Performance steering wheel. The switch is omitted on vehicles with a heated steering wheel (SA248).
