SIM Reader for personal eSIM

Description

The BMW SIM Reader is a complementary product to the SA 6PA Personal eSIM. It is a small portable battery-powered device that is connected to the vehicle's infotainment system via Bluetooth LE. The Personal eSIM (SA 6PA) is a virtual version of a conventional SIM card permanently installed in the vehicle. It is only available in BMW Connected Drive markets. The Personal eSIM (SA 6PA) can be activated by extending your existing mobile phone contract. This turns the vehicle into another networked device, similar to a smartwatch. This makes it possible to make calls and use mobile data even when the cell phone is not in the vehicle. The Personal eSIM (SA 6PA) includes the following functions: -Premium telephony (best possible reception and call quality by using the external aerials; 5G-capable). -Mobile hotspot (connection of up to 10 end devices in the vehicle) -Radio interface: Bluetooth 4.2 LE. Not all mobile phone providers operating in the BMW ConnectedDrive markets support the activation of the Personal eSIM (an overview of BMW cooperation partners can be found in the My BMW app or on the My BMW website). In this case, the BMW SIM Reader can be used to activate and use the Personal eSIM (SA 6PA) in the vehicle. To do this, a nano SIM card is inserted into the SIM reader and this is connected to the vehicle's infotainment system. In the standard use case, the nano SIM card should be a second SIM card of your mobile phone contract ("multi-SIM": identical contract, identical phone number). The BMW SIM Reader can remain in the vehicle or be used in several vehicles with SA 6PA. -The Personal eSIM (SA 6PA) can also be used if a cooperating mobile phone provider is unavailable. -The Personal eSIM uses the vehicle's mobile phone antennas and thus improves call quality and mobile data reception. -The Personal eSIM makes the vehicle 5G-capable. -The Personal eSIM reduces mobile phone radiation in the vehicle by using the external antennas. -The SIM reader can be used in several vehicles (max. 10). Functionality: -The BMW SIM Reader has an internal holder for a nano SIM card into which, for example, an additional card from the existing mobile phone contract can be inserted -Inserting the SIM card makes the device ready for operation, after which it can be connected to the vehicle's infotainment system and the Personal eSIM (SA 6PA) can be activated and used. -The battery life in operation is approximately 2 years. The battery charge status is shown on the vehicle's control display -The steps for connecting the BMW SIM Reader and thus activating the Personal eSIM (SA 6PA) are shown on the Control Display -The integrated LED status display provides information about the connection status or an error status of the BMW SIM Reader -The battery type used is not available as a BMW spare part, but is available from independent dealers worldwide The BMW SIM Reader for Personal eSIM can only be used in conjunction with the SA 6PA. Not all vehicles with SA 6PA are capable of using the BMW SIM Reader. There are exclusions depending on the time of manufacture of the vehicle and in conjunction with some top SAs of the driver assistance system. Some vehicles can be retroactively enabled for the BMW SIM Reader from a certain date of manufacture in conjunction with a more recent I-level.
